  • A Writing Craft Experience
“Since writing is ideally a balance between the private vision and the public world, the one passionate and often inchoate, the other formally constructed, quick to categorize and assess, it’s necessary to think of this art as a craft. Without craft, art remains private. Without art, craft is merely hackwork.” Quote except from Joyce Carol … Continue reading […]

About Taellywood and the search for God’s wisdom in this fiction book

“I wasn’t that excited about going to Taellywood. There was a shadow that I felt hovering over me. That night I couldn’t sleep. I tossed and turned in bed with thoughts of ghosts and owls watching me. Maybe in the morning Clarise would change her mind. Maybe we wouldn’t go into that forest after all.”

cropped-taellywood-sun-cover.jpgIn this excerpt above, Taellywood seems as much a mystery as it is dangerous. Yet as I read this excerpt I wrote over 2 years ago, the pull towards seeking this treasure is still haunting. As any writer does, he never forgets his characters. They stay with him even as years pass. This treasure hunt book speaks about life and tells the story of 5 youths embarking on a journey.

Why would anyone want to find an ancient treasure? The legends speak of adventures. The message of this book provides wisdom for seekers. It’s been done before yet this story has a twist. The ancient treasure contains a box. “I know all about it,” Dillon said. “There’s a hidden box inside this buried treasure. The box contains all the wisdom of God. They say that whoever opens this box will have the knowledge of God. It contains all of God’s wisdom and human wisdom. The one who discovers it will understand all truths. They will have answers to everything. Every question we ever had, every reason for God’s purposes, the one who opens it will gain all this wisdom. They will know and understand God’s will. Yeah, I know all about it. and I will be the one who opens the box.”

I love the idea of it. Finding the answers to the questions of life seems plausible. Yet for these 5 youths they find something more. Interested in this book? It’s currently available at bookstores. The ebook is available on Amazon.

Check it out. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Cody Jacks Introduced in Taellywood

“Most people knew Cody Jacks by his nickname, ‘Jax’ except his mother, who called him by his given name, Cody Coldwall Jacks.  We encountered Jax as we were heading home from Taellywood. He appeared from the shadows demanding us to turn over the treasure.

“Turn it over, or you will die,” he commanded. Cody Jax spoke with a gruff. His leather voice was as distinguished as his jacket.

“It doesn’t belong to you,” Dillon said.

Horse Shadow by Charles Rondeau/publicdomainpictures.netI wasn’t going to ask questions of this man. His dark eyes gazed of contempt. Hatred filled his heart. This man was unrivaled to any of our humble personalities. He took us by surprise. In an unfueled attempt at bravery, Dillon quickly turned around and there they stood, face to face.

“You are just a bunch of children,” Jax said. “I have searched for that treasure for years. I followed you after you left the cabin. I had a feeling you were heading for the treasure. I must admit, you are quite a bunch. You have outsmarted many who have sought the treasure. But it belongs to me.”

Jax walked over to Clarise. He stood close to 6’ 4” and his towering stature made Clarise look so small.

“Don’t mess with her,” I said.

Jax scrutinized his thin black eyes in my direction. I felt a cold chill go down my spine. This man was evil.”

Taellywood Treasure Hunt is Haunting and Spiritual

“I felt it touch my shoulders. I embraced the gentle breeze softly caressing my cheeks.  I wasn’t afraid. I knew it was out there somewhere, just waiting for us. What would happen when we found it? Because I knew, deep down inside I knew. We would find it, but then what? Would it be all over?

Purple FlowerThe Taellywood treasure beckoned us. All of us ached for God’s wisdom. We had so many questions.

‘Go to Taellywood,’ the angel said. ‘You will find a treasure buried there deep inside the forest. Look beyond the trees. Look beyond your fears. Under the big oak tree will be distinct markings. There you will find a blue bench resting under the crescent moon. Go to that tree and you’ll find the ancient treasure. The handprints will lead you to the place you were told about long ago.'”

20131003-173927.jpgThe story is a blend of fantasy and religious fiction.  It’s a story about finding an ancient treasure which contains a wisdom box. If you have ever wondered why things happen or wish to understand God’s will, you would certainly look for those answers in God’s wisdom box. A group of teenagers aim to do just that and they set out on an adventure.

In this excerpt from “Taellywood”, the group of friends encounter an old wise man.

“Hey there old man,” he said. “What are you doing out here in the middle of the woodlands?”

The old man glanced upwards at Dillon. His black eyes peering out under his thick eyebrows, barely taking notice to the rest of us, he said, “No man has survived looking for the Taellywood treasure. Many hunters, pioneers and tribe leaders have died trying to find it, but the one who opens it will have a special anointing.”

The old man extended his twisted fingers up to his face and scratched his long white beard. Turning sharply to look at us, he scrutinized each one of our faces and whispered, “You must be extremely careful. I’m telling you this as a warning. Don’t be a fool. It is better you run from the treasure than to seek it.”

We stood there in silence. Who was this man? Where did he come from? How did he know what we were doing?  I had so many questions running through my mind. I absolutely wanted to know who he was.”

“But will you help us?” Dillon asked.

The old man pulled out a felt sack from inside his robe. Twisting the rope which held the sack closed, he tossed it over to Dillon.
